Abstract:
The scientific challenges that have given rise to FDR methodologies 1990-2020
The International Statistical Institute Pearson Prize Lecture
From its inception, and over the last three decades, the evolvement of the false discovery rate has been a journey driven by scientific challenges in need of statistical solutions. In this talk I shall visit a few stations on my part of the journey, describe the scientific problems, and explain how a new component in FDR methodology arose to face the challenge. Among the challenges are multiple endpoints in clinical trials, educational research, teleconnections in meteorology, Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) analysis and Microarrays, Animal Behavior, functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), Genomwise Association Studies (GWAS), and gene expression QTL (eQTL) in multiple tissues.
