Welcome & Committees

Local Organizing Committee (LOC)

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is charged with finalizing plans for the social program for every International Biometric Conference, including an evening welcome reception, a fun reception for students and early career researchers, exciting tours and excursions, and a Gala Dinner. The LOC's primary goal is to bring a memorable local flavor to each IBC.

LOC Invitation Letter

Dear conference participants,

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I am pleased to invite you to participate in the International Biometric Conference 2022 in the capital of Latvia – Riga.

I would like to invite you to visit Riga – the city of the conference, which is not only Latvian, but also the pearl of the Baltics. The Historic Centre of Riga or Old Town Riga is listed in the UNESCO's World Heritage List. Every century has left its path in the face of Riga, and it can be seen in architecture, in Old Riga and Riga city centre where, along Alberta Street, the Art-Noveau towers and facades intersects with medieval buildings and old wooden architecture.

Riga has hidden hundreds and even thousands of stories. The most popular tourist path leads down the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town Riga, such as Rozena Street, the narrowest street in Riga, where, if you try hard enough, it is possible to reach the wall of houses on the other side of the street. The most spectacular building, which allows you to explore the panoramic view of Riga as well as surrounding churches of Old Riga is from the tower of St. Peter`s Church, which is 72 m tall. The lovely Three Brothers houses, the Jauniela Street pastel colours, the Swedish Gate and the spectacular Dome Square opens a breathtaking view of the Old Town Riga.

Near the conference venue, Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel, you can view Vermanes Garden, while further is located Kronvalda Park that offers a place for a rest with fountain and benches, which is a great location to enjoy sunshine or have a picnic.

Riga is clearly a gastronomic destination with a restaurant specific fusion kitchen. You can taste food that is typical for Latvia, traditional recipes and meals from local chefs with a surprising combination of seasonal ingredients.

The National Library of Latvia or also known as the Castle of Light is one of the most important cultural projects of the 21st century – a modern culture and information centre, which also provides an impressive view from upper floors to Riga panorama.

Riga offers a dynamic cultural life bringing together world-class artists as in art museums you can see works of classical and contemporary artists, while in a relaxed atmosphere in evenings you can listen to the outdoor concerts of various artists at K. K. fon Stricka Villa or in Tallinn Street Quarter which is a popular place among locals for entertainment.

Explore, see and enjoy Riga at the International Biometric Conference 2022.

A Welcome Letter from Geert Verbeke

Welcome to the website for the 31st International Biometric Conference IBC2022, to be held July 10-15, 2022 at the Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel in Riga, Latvia. On this website, you will find updates on the various aspects of the conference, including scientific and social program, registration, travel information, etc.

The meeting is being hosted by the Nordic-Baltic region. It is a pleasure for me to work with Andrejs Ivanovs and Krista Fischer, chair and co-chair of the Local Organizing Committee currently putting together the social program, including welcome reception, excursions, and a gala dinner.

The International Program Committee, chaired by Kerrie Mengersen from the Australasian region, is currently finalizing the entire scientific program. As with previous IBC’s, the scientific program will also include several special sessions, including Biometrics and JABES showcase sessions, a Young Statistician’s Showcase session, and a Presidential Keynote Session. The Education Committee, currently chaired by Annette Kopp-Schneider from the German region, has selected a program of short courses that will be offered on the day prior to the opening of the main conference.

The abstract submission process is managed by our staff members from the International Business Office. We thank them for their many hours of support for this program.

I invite all interested biometricians to participate in the meeting and to share any suggestions which can help us to make IBC2022 another very successful meeting. I have had the opportunity to visit Riga and the selected conference venue twice during our planning,  and I have seen how much this proud, vibrant city has to offer. I hope many will be able to join our meeting at this interesting and stimulating venue and city. Be sure to check this website on a regular basis in order to stay informed of all IBC2022 developments.

I look forward to meeting you in Riga.

Geert Verbeke
President International Biometric Society 2020-2021
Organizing President IBC2022

International Program committee (IPC)

The International Program Committee is charged with the planning and direction of the scientific facets of the International Biometric Conference. The Members of the Committee shall be appointed by the Organizing President for that Conference, in consultation with the International Program Committee Chair, and shall include Member representative of the overall scientific interests and geographical spread of the Society. It shall also include a representative from the Local Organizing Committee.

IPC Chair Invitation Letter

Dear Colleagues,

Although the IBC 2020 virtual conference was a huge success, we are looking forward very much to welcoming you in person to the IBC 2022 meeting! There is no doubt that meeting up with friends and colleagues at a conference is inspiring, educational and fun. There is also no doubt that Riga will be a perfect place to do this!

The IBC is one of the world's premier statistics conferences. Thanks to the staff at the IBS Business Office and our various planning committees, IBC 2022 promises to maintain this fine tradition. We have already had an excellent response to calls for presentations, and we are looking forward to expanding our list of participants. IBC 2022 will include a wide diversity of researchers and practitioners with respect to gender, geography, discipline and seniority. The rich blend of ideas and perspectives that will be generated at IBC 2022 promises to be a great catalyst for a fantastic future for statistical sciences!

On behalf of the International Program Committee (IPC) and the Supporting Committees, we invite you to join us for IBC 2022.

Kind regards
Kerrie Mengersen, Chair, IPC
