The International Biometric Society (IBS) calls for proposals for Short Courses to be offered at its XXXI International Biometric Conference (IBC2022). IBC2022 will be held 11-15 July 2022 at the Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel, Riga, Latvia.
An International Biometric Conference short course is usually taught by one or more instructors on a topic that is likely to be of interest to many potential IBC participants. Short courses may be on an introductory level or may address more advanced and specialized topics. Participants are often drawn to courses that have a strong computational component, for example, learning about methods for which there is a good R package available. Our goal is to provide courses that will attract a diverse set of registrants, especially including students and early career researchers, and representing a range of different application areas. We also want to reach out to potential participants from economically developing countries. Course selection will be by committee consensus and will consider how the courses complement and enhance the scientific program of the conference as well as the likelihood they will attract a good number of registrants.
Normally, short courses are held on the Sunday before the start of the conference (10 July 2022). A course can either last the full day (six - eight hours) or a half day (four hours). Short course presenters will receive a small honorarium as a thank you for their efforts.
Short Course proposals should include motivation, proposed content(s) and potential target audience of the course, as well as a description of the previous teaching experience and subject area expertise of the instructor(s). We also ask that the proposal include contact information for one - two participants of a previous course taught by the instructor(s) whom we may contact if needed.
Please download and complete the submission form provided for the proposal, and send by email to the Education Committee Chair, Annette Kopp-Schneider at kopp@dkfz-heidelberg.de with a copy to the International Biometric Office (IBO) at conference@biometricsociety.org.
Proposals for short courses should be submitted electronically by 31 March 2021. Late submissions after this date will not be accepted.
Proposals will be selected by the Education Committee by early June 2021. Thank you for your support of the IBC! We look forward to seeing you in Latvia.
