Travel Grant Application

Travel Grant Application

IBC Travel Award Information

The IBS Travel Awards Program, made available through the financial support of the International Biometric Society, IBS Regions, and individuals, provides assistance to only IBS members from a Low and Middle-Income Country (LMIC) to attend an IBC. IBC2022 will be held 10 - 15 July 2022 at the Radisson Blu Latvia Conference & Spa Hotel in Riga, Latvia.

If you are interested in attending the IBC2022 but don’t have the resources to attend, please consider submitting an application for a travel grant. This is a competitive program with limited funding, and grants will not exceed $3,000 USD.

Before applying, it is important to determine if you qualify for funding. There are several important guidelines to keep in mind.

Important Guidelines

  • Only active members residing in a Lower and Middle Income Country at the time of application are eligible.
  • You must be an IBS member at the time of application, and for at least 12 months prior to the date of application.
  • Previous recipients of the award may apply only if the award was not made in the previous four years.
  • Preference will be given to those who have not received a travel award in the past.
Prior to applying for funding through the IBS, applicants are required to contact the management of their local region and provide a regional membership confirmation. We ask you to request or supply a letter from your local region representative that states you are a paid-in-full member and what year you joined the society. Once this written statement has been received from the region representative, a copy of the statement must be sent to Amanda Bignall at the International Biometric Office. This is a new requirement established in 2019.

Travel Visa Requirements

It is the applicants' responsibility to ensure travel to Latvia is available. The IBO is not able to provide travel visas and asks that you work directly with your country representatives/embassy to gain a travel visa for the IBC2022. Please note that if you are a travel awards recipient and your travel visa gets denied, you will not receive compensation.

COVID-19 Resources

We are hopeful that the current restrictions put into place by the persistent COVID-19 virus and variants will be improved prior to our conference in July 2022. However, we still encourage all applicants to be aware of restrictions for travel for their country and the conference host country – Latvia.

Links to COVID-19 restrictions and resources for Latvia are provided below. Take note that additional local COVID-19 resources and restrictions might be available for your country and we urge you research and to bookmark those for future review.
